Hey, quick question — has anyone here recently had to call out a locksmith in San Juan County? I had a situation last weekend where I locked myself out of my cabin in Friday Harbor. It was late, and I didn’t really know who to call, so I ended up googling some random number and probably overpaid. They showed up after 40 minutes, which was great, but the bill came out to nearly $300 just to get the door open. No broken lock or anything, just a simple unlock. Is this normal around here, or did I just get unlucky?

Interesting topic. I don’t have any locksmith stories, but I did visit San Juan County last summer and absolutely loved it. The ferry rides, quiet vibe, and all the nature — it’s a different pace of life. I can imagine it’d be tricky to get emergency services quickly though, especially something like a locksmith late at night.
Hey, I know what you mean — I had a similar situation a few months ago, also in Friday Harbor. I lost my keys while hiking and had to call someone on short notice. It wasn’t cheap either, but I found this directory that lists local options along with some average pricing info. You can check it out here: Locksmiths in San Juan County. According to that, $250–300 is actually on the higher end, but not unheard of if it’s a weekend or outside regular hours. It definitely helps to call around or at least know who’s nearby, especially if you’re out on the islands where fewer services are available.
